Oh crêpe!

Hullo world! Long time no see. If you're a blogger, you propably know the syndrome of having tons of time but nothing to write vs. having tons to write but no time at all. I'm having really bad symptoms of the latter. I have so much to tell about the last week of high school and now the first week of summer break and also about my exchange year! But I've been busy with all that and like that waan't enough, my laptop bailed on me. Sigh. Only four keys work, which doesn't really do much, so I'm out of laptop until I get to bring it to the repair company. I luckily did download some pics to blogger already, so I can break the blog silence with those and writing with phone. These outfit pics I took a week or a few ago, but here they are at last. This week this outfit hasn't been on me because my everyday clothes include skating pants, a hoodie, trainers and leg warmers. Seriously, leg warmers! I never thought I was a fan of them but after sitting seven hours in an ice rink I realized that they were going to be my best friends for the the coming weeks. That is, because I have a summer job at a skating camp! As some of you might know, I was a skater myself for 9 years and this year I started coaching little skaters and really enjoyed it, so this job was a really nice kick of luck. Okay I don't actually get to skate that much - yesterday was the first time I got on ice - but still, it's a familiar place for me and it's fun to be at the other side of the business. It's strange and I get waves of wishing I was a skater instead of a camp helper, but I'm still really happy with my decision. I somehow lost my motivation when the hobby got really serious and time consuming and even thought it was hard, decised that that wasn't my piece of cake. I was really young and my parents weren't really supportive on that decision, but I kept my mind and made the right decision, by myself. You got to listen to your heart, you know! But back to present day. So summer break is going on and even thought I'm working, I love it! No homework, no stressing about missing the bus and no busy (well, busy because of school anyways) evenings. It's not really warm but it's sunny, and the nightless nights - my favorite thing about Finland for sure! - fresh air and green meadows just can not leave anyone unhappy. Oh I love summer./

Moikka maailma! Pitkästä aikaa. Jos olet itsekkin bloggaaja niin syndrooma nimeltä 'paljon aikaa muttei mitään kirjotettavaa vs. paljon kirjotettavaa muttei yhtään aikaa' kuulostaa varmasti tutulta. Itse kärsin tällä hetkellä jälkimmäisen oireista. Haluisin kertoa kaiken vikasta kouluviikosta ja ekasta lomaviikosta ja vaihtariuutisistani, mutta aika vaan liikkuu eteenpäin ilman että kerkeän edes näppäimistöä klikata! Aikapulan päälle vielä se, että läppärini petti minut. Neljällä toimivalla näppäimellä ei pitkälle pötkitä, joten nyt olen koneetta kunnes saan sen vietyä korjaajalle. Onneksi kerkesin jo ladata muutamia kuvia valmiiksi, kuten nämä muutama viikko sitten otetut asukuvat. Ihan tälläinen asu ei ole tällä viikolla ollut päällä, hameen sijaan jalassa on ollut lenkkarit, luisteluhousut ja säärystimet. En tosiaan ole säärystimien suurkuluttajia, mutta seitsemän tuntia jäähallissa istuttuani päätin niitten olevan paras seuralaiseni kuluvalla viikolla. Olen nimittäin kesätöissä luisteluleirillä! Kuten jotkut teistä ehkä jo tietääkin, olin itse luistelija 9 vuoden ajan. Sitten jostain syystä koin että ei se ollutkaan minua varten,  ja päätin lopettaa. Olin kovin nuori ja siitäkään syystä vanhempani eivät oikein tukeneet tätä päätöstä, mutta pidin pääni ja vaikalkin monesti haikailen jäälle takaisin, tiedän että se oli oikea päätös. Pitää kuunnella omaa sydäntään, muistakaas se! Mutta takaisin nykyhetkeen. Kesäloma on alkanut ja vaikka se kuluukin tässä töitten parissa, on se ihanaa! Ei stressiä koulusta, aamubussiin juoksemista ja kiireisiä iltoja (tai no, ei kiireisiä koulun vuoksi ainakaan). Tämä vapaus ja yöttömät yöt - lemppari asiani Suomessa! - tekevät elämästä niin makoisaa ettei kukaan kyllä jää hymyttä! Voi miten rakastan kesää.

new in: spring shopping

Howdy lovelies! I hope you're doing well!

TGIF again, even thought I'm also a little worried about how fast the weeks are going! I've got anymore 89 days (yes I have it on dreamdays) before my flight will leave at 7 am to Paris and then to Ecuador! Okay I know that 89 days is a long time, but at the moment I'm just really confused/amazed/sad about the fact that the first year of high school is going to be over in a week, especially since I'm not coming back to school next fall. Luckily I'll be there the year after that and no, I wouldn't let go of this chance for anything, but it is still a bit sad. But otherwise life's not sad at all! We're finally getting the weather here inthe North as well, I've officially opened my summer clothes season. The sun is shining and I've got three exams left anymore and I'm thinking aboiut baking a mudcake, so life's going well over here. Tho something's not going as aoriginaly planned - I did plan to have a shopping strike (for two reasons: 1. even after my fleamarket goodbyes I don't have that much extra space in my closet and 2. I'm propably going to shop in Ecuador because my style might change a lot and I don't really know what to pack, so it would be stupid to buy tons of clothes just for the summer and then leave them in the closet for a year) but it hasn't gone so well.. So I came up with a new plan; shopping critically. I've done way too many mistake shoppings in my life so now when I see something I like, I leave it in the store, and if I see myself thinking about it still days after that and if it's something I actually need or atleast know that I'll use a lot and pack with me to Ecuador, I go and buy it. It's still a little far from shopping strike, but it's gone well so far! Atleast I'm really happy with these spring finds! What do you think?

/ Moikka ihanat! Toivottavasti teille kuuluu hyvää!

Jes että on perjantai, vaikkakin samaa aikaa hirvittää miten nopeasti viikot on mennyt! Mulla on enää 89 päivää ennen aamu seitsemän lentoa Pariisin ja sieltä Ecuadoriin! Okei joo 89 päivää on tosi pitkä aika, mutta se fakta että lukion eka luokka on meiltä ohi viikon päässä on kyllä ainakin super outo/jännittävä/surullinen. Varsinkin kun en tule enää syksyllä takaisin. Tokihan palaan sitten vuoden päästä, mutta oudolta ja haikealta se silti tuntuu. Muuten onneksi elämä ei ole haikeaa ollenkaan, aurinko paistaa, kokeita on enää kolme jäljellä ja ajattelin tästä mennä leipomaan mutakakkua, joten elämä hymyilee! Pitää tosin sen hymyn takaa paljastaa että shoppailulakko suunnitelmani ei ihan pitänyt. Lakon oli tarkoitus pitää huoli pankkitilistä, siitä juuri sopivasta tilamäärästä joka nyt kirppisoperaation jälkeen vaatekaapista löytyy ja siitä, etten osta turhia ostoksia kesäksi vain niiden jäädäkseen ensi vuodeksi Suomeen pölyttymään - Ecuadorissa tulee nimittäin todennäköisesti shoppailtua kun tietää miten alueella kuuluu pukeutua ja mitä kaupoista löytyy, ja muutenkaan matkalaukkuun ei loppujen lopuksi mahdu kovinkaan paljoa! Mutta vaikka shoppailulakko ei ihan pitänyt, päädyin kampanjaan nimeltä kriittinen shoppailu. Elikkä jos löydän jotain mistä todella pidän, jätän sen kauppaan ja jos haikailen kyseistä kangaspalasta tai muuta houkutusta vielä muutama päivä myöhemmin ja se on jotain mitä todella tarvitsen tai ainakin jotain mitä tiedän että tulen käyttämään plajon, mieluusti myös Ecuadorissa, niin sitten vasta marssin takaisin kauppaan ja siellä kassalle. Ei vastaa ihan shoppailulakkoa, mutta on toiminut kuitenkin hyvin ainakin tään asti! Ainakin näihin kevätostoksiin olen tosi tyytyväinen, mitäs mieltä ruudun toisella puolella ollaan?

How To Turn a Rainy Day Into a Sunny Day

Hullo! I hope ou're doing fine! I'm spending a lazy weekend after a busy week - studying, shopping and walking around town. The weather has been crazy these days; it's raining and blowing and shining all at the same time or all in the same fifteen minutes. But mostly it's not summery at all. I'm not hopeless! I'm just a little annoyed, all the skirts ad shirts and bikinis are screaming for me in my closet! So I use these little tips to cheer my day, even on the cloudiest days. Especially on the ugliest time of the year (the late winter/ early spring, really don't recommend that time for a trip to Finland!) these little things always made my day, hope they will make yours too!

Heipähei! Toivottavasti teille kuuluu hyvää! Vietän tällä hetkellä laiskaa viikonloppua kiireisen viikon jälkeen - tuli opiskeltua, shoppailtua, nähtyä kvaereita ja kierreltyä kaupungilla. Tämä "kevätsää" ei nyt ole ihan ollut parhaimmillaan, vartin sisällä kaikki eri sääilmiöt joista mikään ei tosin ole yli 15 astetta lämpöä - mikä Kalevalan jumalista oikein on suututettu? Kesä pliis tule jo, haluan päästä jo käyttämään hameita ja shortseja ja bikineita, enkä varmaan ole ainoa vaiko? Mutta onneksi kesää odotellessa sellaisen voi luoda myös neljän seinän sisälle. Nämä pikkujutut piristi ainakin omaa päivääni jo sinä rumimoana alkukeväisenä vuodenaikana ja toimii vieläkin, toivottavasti teilläkin! :)

- Wear a comfy pair of slippers - I got these from our Hotel Observatoire Luxembourg in Paris, they feel like walking on clouds! / Laita jalkaan mukavat tossut - nämä ihanuudet löytyi Pariisista Hotel Obsertavoire Luxembourgista, tuntuu kuin kävelisi pilvien päällä!

- Keep your curtains open and let as much light in as possible / Avaa verhot ja päästä kaikki mahdollinen luonnonvalo sisään

- Wear flowers on your hair + very light or no makeup / Kukkasia hiuksiin + kevyt taikka olematon meikki naamaan!

- Keep your plans in order and keep your walls and calenders inspiring / Pidä aikataulusi järjestyksessä ja seinäsi inspiroivina ja piristävinä

- Last but definitely not least: have a glass of good orange juice (the ones God Morgon makes are my absolute favorites) . It cheers you up first thing in the morning! / Sokerina pohjalla (kirjaimellisesti, haha vitsit kun on hyvää läppää :D): juo lasillinen hyvää appelsiinimehua (God Morgonin on ihan mun lemppareita). Se piristää heti aamusta!

Hi! Who are you? Where are you going?

 Hola! How are you? I'm great! And excited! And nervous! And thousand other feelings!

That's because we just had our YFU pre-departure orientation camp with all of the future YFU- exchange students who are leaving next autumn/summer plus volunteers and people from the office who organized the camp. All together we were a little under 200! We went there by buses on Saturday morning and came back this Sunday evening. We had all kinds of workshops which were meant to prepare us for our exchange year, and all kinds of fun activities which made us throw ourselves. I got to know so many wonderful people who are going to countries all around the world, I learned a lot about my host country Ecuador and overall had a lovely weekend! I feel so sad that I lef my camera in my room on the first day when we had our Amazing Race YFU and our American visitor and his team had a improvisation show for us and tons of other kind of fun, but here are at least pics and stories from the second day!

Hola! Mitä kuuluu? Itelleni kuuluu tosi hyvää! Ja oon innoissani! Ja mua jännittää! Ja tuhat muuta tunnetta oisi mielessä! Tämä siksi että nyt viikonloppuna oli meidän YFU:n lähtövalmennusleiri  kaikkien ensi vuonna YFU:n kautta vaihtoon lähtevien ja muutaman siellä jo olleen, nyt vapaaehtoisena toimivan ja muutaman toimiston työntekijän kanssa - yhteensä meitä oli vajaa 200! Läksimme Marttisiin Virroille lauantai aamuna bussilla ja palasimme koteihimme tänään sunnuntai iltana. Meillä oli kaikenlaisia työpajoja jotka kukin omalla tavallaan valmisti meitä ensi vuotta varten, ja vapaaehtoisten järkkäämää hauskaa tekemistä joka auttoi meitä heittäytymään. Tutuistuin moneen ihanaan uuteen ihmiseen jotka lähtevät ihaniin maihin ympäri maapalloa, opin omasta kohdemaastani Ecuadorista ja ylipäätätnsä vietin tosi kivan viikonlopun tosi hyvässä seurassa! Vitsi kun nyt harmittaa vaan että jätin kameran lauantaina huoneeseen niin jäi Amazing Race YFU ja amerikkalaisen vieraamme improvisaatioryhmineen pitämät esitykset ja muut hauskat jutut siltä päivältä kuvattua, mutta tässä on ainakin sunnuntain kuvia ja tarinoita!

We all carried these name tags with the flags of our host countries - have to say it was really helpful! You got the answers to those basic questions in the topic also by just looking down (except that we learnt at a smalltalk lesson that keeping eyecontact and asking questions is really important), and there where way too many names to learn in two days! About every person who I talked to looked at my flag and asked 'Which country is that?' which was funny, but I really don't blame them - I didn't know mysefl either what the flag looked like before I had to google it a few months ago! / Kannoimme kaikki tällaisia nimilappuja kaulassa jossa oli myös kohdemaamme lippu - pakko sanoa että oli kyllä tosi hyödylliset! Vastaukset noihin otsikossakin oleviin peruskysymyksiin sai jo vähän alas vilkaisemalla (vaikka tosin opittiinkin smalltalkista että katsekontakti tulee pitää ja täytyy esittää kysymyksiä!) ja siellä oli kyllä ihan liikaa nimiä yhtenä viikonloppuna opittavaksi! Musta oli hauskaa kun melkeen jokainen joka omaa lippuani vilkaisi kysyi ekaksi että 'Mihin sä ootkaan menossa?' mutta en kyllä ihmettele yhtään, ei ollut mullakaan mitään hajua Ecuadorin lipusta vielä pari kuukautta sitten!

We were put in houses with people who were going to the same country or area, even though I was the only Ecuador - traveller I luckily didn't have to bunk alone, I got a roomie who is going to Mexico! / Meidät jaettiin huoneisiin ja mökkeihin kohdemaan/ suunnan mukaan , onneksi kuitenkin vaikka olin ainut Ecuadoriin lähtijä en joutunut punkkailemaan eristettynä, vaan päädyin Mexicoon reissaavan kanssa samaan tilaan!

Marttiset, Virrat was a lovely place to host the camp, and I had many good memories from there since I also had my confirmation camp there! The funny thing was that I even stayed in the same cottage then! / Marttiset Virroilla oli oiva valinta leiripaikaksi, ja itelläni oli sieltä jo ennestään kasa hyviä muistoja koska oma riparini oli siellä myös! Hauskinta oli että päädyin vielä asustamaan tismalleen samaan mökkiin kuin silloin!

The food was good, and as always, worth photographing. / Ruoka siellä on tosi hyvää, ja kuten ruoka aina, taatusti kuvaamisen arvoista.

Our 40 young and understading volunteers were a big part of the camp too. / Meidän 40 'nuorta ja ymmärtävää' vapaaehtoistamme olivat iso osa leiriä myös.

All kinds of presentations were held for either all of us or in groups by the countries / continents / distants. / Kaikenlaiset esitelmät pidettiin joko kerralla meille kaikille taikka sitten maan/ maanosan/matkan pituuden perusteella jaetuille ryhmille erikseen, lattarithan kuuluivat kaukomaihin.

On Sunday morning the volunteers made us dance by directions from youtube, that was fun and I'll have to find out what the video was called! / Sunnuntai aamun herätykseksi meidät laitettiin tanssimaan youtube videon ohjeiden tahtiin, se oli hauskaa ja aion vielä löytää sen nimen tulevia vastaavia juttuja varten!

When we got to know that it's not always sunshine and rainbows - okay well we knew that when we signed up for this but I guess that you can never get too much of repeating it! / Kun saatiin tietää että vaihtarivuosi ei ole aina kukkasia ja tanssivia kissanpentuja - okei tiedettiinhän me se jo kun nimemme papereihin kirjoitettiin mutta kertaus on opintojen äiti!

On some workshops we were put into smaller groups to talk with each other before collecting all of our thoughts together, that moment for example we had to answer to the question 'What is culture'. / Joissain työpajoissa meidät jaettiin pienempiin ryhmiin juttelemaan keskenään ennen yhteistä ajatuspataa, tämän kuvan aikaan esimerksiksi mietimme juuri 'Mitä on kulttuuri'.

Just a few days but still so much stuff, packing for a year is going to be a problem for us I might guess! / Vain muutama päivä ja niin paljon tavaraa, vuodeksi pakkaaminen saattaakin olla sitten meille vähän isompikin haaste!

Bein outside, spring weather, yay yay! / Ulkoilua, kevätsäätä, jeejee!

Peto on irti by Antti Tuisku was for some confusing reason the theme song, playing on every single break on repeat! But at the end the volunteers pinted out why - the lyrics say that the 'World opens and you get open' (but translation correct me Finns please!) and that was what they wanted to tell us; makes sense! / Antti Tuiskun Peto on irti pyöri leirillä jostain syytä ihan koko ajan, mutta lopussa vapaaehtoiset paljasti että siihen liittyi myös pointti, mikä oli kertsin sanat 'Maailma aukee ja estot lähtee'. Tuisku puhuu asiaa!

The keys for exchange year; be active, think about how you keep contact to home, have a positive attutude, enjoy different, remember good manners and rules & YFU is there for you. / Vaihtarivuoden avaimet; ole avoin, mieti miten pidät yhteyttä kotiin, pidä positiivinen asenne, nauti erilaisuudesta, muista hyvät tavat ja säännöt & YFU on tukenasi.

We are about 15-20 people going to Latin America but the others were to fast on their feet so us four got to smile to the camera; Mexico, two Argentiinas and Ecuador (also Uruguay should have been there)! / Meitä lattareihin lähtijöitä oisi yhteensä noin 20 mutta muut olivat liian nopeita jaloistaan joten kameran eteen päätyivät me neljä; Mexico, kaksi Argentiinaa ja Ecuador (Uruguay kuuluu lattariryhmään myös)!

Some people we knew already, some people we got to know there! / Joitain tuttuja jo oli, mutta moniin uusiin tutustui siellä!

Leaving was strange, because even though some had a same flight together, most people we would get to see at the home welcoming orientation camp in autumn 2016! / Lähteminen tuntui oudolta, koska vaikka osalla oli tuttuja tulossa samalle lennolle, suurimman osan kanssa tulisi näkemään uudestaan vasta kotiinpaluu valmennuksessa syksyllä 2016!
