farewell party in Finland

Hola! So here are the promised pics from my second last night in Finland, better late than never, right! My parents had put a lot of work into it in the shape of good food (mom) and drinks (dad), and I was responsible for music. I didn’t get to eat anything tho! That’s because I was all the time talking to someone or saying bye to someone, and trust me, it’s not easy. But while setting the table I did get my mouth pieces ;) And anyways the people were obviously most important. Our neighbours were there and also my godmother’s family and some family friends, plus my friends from school and hobbies and such. It was a great way of seeing everyone (exceot not Everyone, hopefully we'll meet also with the rest of you soon!) one last time before leaving, because the next day I had booked for packing (and not without a reason, it turned out! I did also see some of my friends then as well, but very shortly). We had napkins on the colors of Ecuador’s flag, a short quiz about Ecuador and my musical friends also sang a bit! Mom happened to be there when they gave me chocolate and sang a double toned song, so of course that couldn’t be the last song from then on the night. It was a Monday evening so people couldn’t stay really long and I felt that I barely got to talk to anyone! But I did, and hugging them bye was what I really wanted to do (well I didn't exactly want to say bye but ah you know what I mean). I also got lovely souvenirs from our lovely neighbours and friends, even thought that wasn’t meant to happen! It feels a bit strange to think back to that night now since I’m a 15 hours journey away, but at the same time it’s a nice memory to think about. <3

/ Hola! Tässä siis lupaamani kuvat tokavikalta illaltani Suomessa, parempi myöhään kuin ei millonkaan eikös! Meillä oli siis pieni läksiäisteemainen illanvietto, johon äiti ja iskä olivat laittaneet paljon vaivaa ruoan (äiti) ja juomien (iskä) muodossa, ja minä vastasin soittolistasta (rankin homma aijai). En tosin kerennyt syömään enkä juomaan itse mitään! Siitä syystä että koko ajan olin puhumassa jonkun kanssa taikka sanomassa moikat jollekkin, ja sehän ei kovin helposti eikä nopeasti käy. Mutta kattaessa pöytää Krissen kanssa sain kyllä maistiaiset hyvistä piirakoista ja hedelmävartaista yms! Ja sitäpaitsi ihmisethän sitä tietysti olivat päälavalla. Naapurimme olivat paikalla, samin kuin kummitäti tyttärineen ja joitakuita perhetuttujaja sekä kavereitani koulusta ja harrastuksista. Ilta oli oikein kiva ja ihana tapa vielä nähdä kaikkia (paitsi eten nähnyt Kaikkia, toivottavasti pian teidän muidenkin kanssa!) ennen lähtöä. Seuraavan päivän olin nimittäin varannut pakkaamiselle (enkä syyttä kuten ilmeni. Näin myös muutamia kavereitani vielä silloin, mutta vain pikaisesti). Pöydässä oli servettejä Ecuadrin lipun väreissä, pidime pienen Ecuador-tietokisan ja musikaaliset toverini myös lauloivat vähäsen! Äiti sattui olemaan vieressä kun Sanna-Mari ja Janna lauloivat ihanasti kaksiäänisesti antaessaan minulle suklaata matkaan, joten tokihan he joutuivat laulamaan vielä uudestaan ;) Kiitos vielä tytöt! Ja kiitos paljon kaikki jotka olitte paikalla <3 Kiits myös ihanista matamuistoista, joita tosin ei tosiaan ollut tarkoitus tuoda! Ilta meni tosi nopeasti ja tuntui etten kerennyt juuri jutella kunnolla kenellekkään, mutta onneksi edes vähäsen ja moikka-halit olikin se mitä varsinkin halusin tehdä. Tai no, en varsinaisesti halunnut mutta tilanteen huomioon otaten halusin. Pointti on sama, haha. Tuntuu vähän hassulta muistella tuota iltaa kotiterassilla tepastellessa kaikkien tuttujen ympärillä kun nyt olen reiun 15 tunnin lentomatkan päässä, mutta samaan aikaan se on kiva muisto jota muistella.

first days' orientation

Saludos de Salcedo! At the moment I'm already sitting on the bed of my room in my new home town, Salcedo, but the time has flewn so fast that I haven't yet had any time to blog! The flight went by watching movies so the farewell party post is coming later, but I wanted to share these pics from the orientation first! When we arrived to Ecuador on Wednesday afternoon, the YFU Ecuador volunteers met us at the airport and we took a buss together to a place called La casa de espirialitulidad in Quito, where we had our two day orientation camp together with all the YFU exchange students in Ecuador. Just a side note, there was also something a bit speial welcoming us to Ecuador; the erupting Cotopaxi! It's one of the largest volcanoes in the whole world and hasn't erupted since 1904 before this month! The place was wonderful and so were all the people, and at the moment I'm still pretty sad that I wont see them for a while, we had such a great time together! The volunteers were amazing and did a great job, and we learned a lot of useful information (including a bit of Salsa on the last day!) for our coming exchange year. There were students aged from 15 to 18 from Germany (most of them!), Switzerland, US, and us lone riders from Sweden, Danmark, Norway, Canada and Finland. We talked in English which made everything a lot easier, and was indeeda nie, soft landing in Ecuador. Already from the plane we could see how amazing the country is (The Andes are beyond describing) and we were really lucky with the weather. We also visited Quito centrum to get the final confirmations of our visas, but only very shortly. The activities included discussions with the volunteers like 'Who am I' , 'Who are the Ecuadorians', 'The YFU rules' and 'Being an exchange student'. We also ate a lot - typical ecuadorian foods and juices, it was delicious!- and did some games and saw these beautiful presentations about Ecuadorian culture made by the volunteers. Overall they were two really amazing days and I can't wait to meet everyone again on the YFU trips and camps! But for now, Salcedo with my host family! Everyone is really nice, the language is really hard and I feel pretty lost all the time but everything's good here. More about that later, Chao!

Saludos de Salcedo! Tällä hetkellä istun jo oman huoneeni sängyllä uudessa kotikaupugissani, Salcedossa, mutta aika on mennyt niin nopeasti ettetn ole ehtinyt missään vaiheessa vielä tänne kirjoittelemaan. 15 tunnin lento meni elokuvia katsellessa joten läksiäis illan postaus on vasta tuloillaan, muta ensiksi halusin kuitenkin jakaa kuvia ekojen päivien orientaatioleiriltä. Kun saavuimme perille Ecuadoriin keskiviikkona, YFU Ecuadorin vapaaetoiset olivat meitä kentällä vastassa. Menimme kaikki yhdessä bussilla La casa de Espiriatulidad nimiseen nunnien ylläpitämään majatalon kaltaiseen, todella hienoon paikkaan. Meitä oli muuten tervetulleeksi toivottamassa myös Cotopaxi tuhkapilvineen! Yksi maailman suurimmista tulivuorista on purkautunut viimeksi vuonna 1904, joten olimme ensimmäiset vaihtarit ikinä jotka näkivät sen purkautuvan! Eka ilta menikin lähinnä nukkuessa mutta seuraavana aktiviteetit jo alkoivat. Mm. keskusteluja vapaaehtoisten kanssa (entisiä vaihtareita hekin) siitä keitä olemme, keitä ovat Ecuadorilaiset, mitkä ovat YFU:n säännöt ja mitä tarkoittaa vaihto-oppilaana oleminen. He esittelivät meille myös upeilla näytelmäpätkillään Ecuadorin kulttuuria, leikimme ja tutustuimme toisiimme ja vikana iltana myös opettelimme salsaa! Ja tietysti söimme paljon. paikallinen ruoka ja tuoreet mehut ovat super hyviä! Orientaatioleiri kesti siis sen reilun kaksi päivää, ja siellä oli kaikki Ecuadoriin tulleet YFU:n vaihtarit. Yhteensä meitä oli noin 30, suurin osa Saksasta, osa Sveitsistä, kaksi Jenkeistä ja sitten me yksinäiset sudet Ruotsista, Norjasta, Tanskasta, Kanadasta sekä Suomesta. Kaikki vaihtarit sekä vapaaehtoiset olivat super mukavia, joten lähteminen leiriltä oli haikeaa ja on nyt jo ikävä kaikkia! Odotan innolla että näemme toisemme taas YFU:n matkoilla ja leireillä, ja ehkä myös vapaa-ajalla kunhan kieli ja bussit ja kaikki tästä selkenee. Mutta nyt kuitenkin Salcedo isäntäperheen kanssa! Kaikki ovat tosi mukavia, Ecuador on upea, kieli on tosi hankalaa ja olen aikas eksyksissä lähes koko ajan, mutta poquito a poquito opitaan ja kaikki on täällä hyvin! Ekoista päivistä täällä perheen luona lisää myöhemmin, nyt Chao amigos!
