It's a new
year with new chances and expectations. This year I've got expectations as high
as 2800 meters!*As you might have read from my previous posts, I'm going to Ecuador for exchange year
next year. Yeah, I know, it's still more than 6 months away but I have a lot
work to do before the departure and of course a lot of thoughts and
expectations and fears as well. / Moikka! Mitä kuuluu? Uusi vuosi ja uudet mahdollisuudet ja odotukset. Tänä vuonna mun odotukset on 2800 metriä korkeella! Kuten ehkä oottekin täältä jo aiemmin lukenut, oon menossa Ecuadoriin vaihto-oppilaaksi ensi vuonna. Jep, vielä yli puoli vuotta lähtöön mutta tässä on vielä paljon tehtävää ja paljon ajatuksia ja odotuksia ja mys pelkoja.

Amazon, Volcanoes, Waterfalls, Galapagos - the Flora
The
nature in Ecuador is spectacular, it's one of the most bio diverse countries in the world. There are high mountains -the Andies- ,
sunny beaches, volcanoes, rainforests and then there's Galapagos
islands. Home of many endemic species, which you can't see anywhere
else. It's a huge dream of mine to get to go there! / AMAZON, TULIVUORET, VESIPUTOUKSET, GALAPAGOS- SAARET - KASVILISUUS ~ Ecuadorin luonto on uskomaton, se on yksi maailman monipuolisimmista. Maassa on korkeita vuoria -Andit- , aurinoisia rantoja, tulivuoria, sademetsiä ja sitten vielä Galapagos-saaret, useiden endeemisten lajien koti. Mun tosi iso unelma oisi päästä sinne käymään!

Sun & the equator
I've never been to the other side of the equator, so it's a whole new milestone for me! There's a place in Quito, Euador's capital, where the ecuator is marked to te ground, which is a must see atleast for me. And on my bucketlist is to do a split on the equator so got to keep stretching! The weather changes a lot depending if you're by the coast, Andies or rainforest, but the average is still a lot warmer than in Finland. Also the fact that the weather stays the same all year is a huge, but interesting difference. / AURINKO JA PÄIVÄNTASAAJA ~ En ole koskaan ollut päiväntasaajan toisella puolella, kiva pääsät ohittamaan se maa merkki! Quitossa, Ecuadorin pääkaupungissa, on paikka johon päiväntasaaja on merkitty, joka on mulle ainakin ihan ehdoton nähtävyys. Ja ämpärilistalla oisi spagaatin teko tuolla viivalla, pitääpä siis muistaa venytellä! Ilmasto vaihtelee paljon riippuen missä päin maata ollaan, mutta keskiarvo ja aurinkoisuus on silti korkeampi kuin mihin täällä olen tottunut. Myös se, että sää ei vaihdukkaan vuoden aikana neljä kertaa tulee olemaan erikoinen mutta mielenkiintoinen kokemus.

Beaches and Surfing
I've tried surfing once, in Hawaii, and had soo much fun! The Pacific coast is a popular place for surfers from all around the world and I hope to get my chance with the waves as well! / RANNAT JA SURFAUS ~ Olen kokeillut surfausta kerran, Havaijilla, ja se oli yksi elämäni hauskimmista kokemuksista! Ecuadorin Tyynen meren rannikko on suosittu surfauspaikka, toivoisin kovasti että itekkin pääsisin kokeilemaan sikäläisiä aallokkoja!

New culture
The ecuadorian culture is a special mixture of Spanish, native indian and latin american. Full of color and differences! The cultural shock is for sure going to be huge! / UUSI KULTTUURI - Ecuadorilainen kulttuuri on sekoitus espanjalaista, alkuperäiskansojen ja latinalaisen amerikan kulttuureita. Täynnä värejä ja erilaisuuksi! Kulttuurishokki tulee varmasti olemaan iso!

New Place, New People, New everything
The biggest thing about going to an exchange year. Everything's new, and everything's strange. It's going to be great to get to know everything and everyone, but scary at first! / TUNTEMATON PAIKKA, TUNTEMATTOMAT IHMISET JA TUNTEMATON KAIKKI ~ Isoin asia vaihtovuodessa. Kaikki on uutta ja outoa. Tulee varmasti olemaan hienoa päästä tutustumaan kaikeen ja kaikkiin, mutta takuulla aluksi pelottavaa!

Shopping
It's not a place to go to see all the 'Merican chain stores, but they do have many many stores that we do'nt have here up North. There are some really big shopping malls and the markets are a great place to shop something local! / SHOPPAILU ~ Ei varmaankaan ole juuri se paikka mennä metsästämään jenkki ketjuliikkeitä, mutta monia kauppoja jota täällä ei näy löytyy kyllä. Siellä on isoja ostoskeskuksia ja torit ovat varmasti paras paikka paikallisten ostosten tekoon!

The Fauna
There are hundreds of animal and bird species that I haven't ever even heard before, not to mention never seen before. The Galapagos islands are a whole group of their own with the whales, iguanas, giant tortoises and blue-feet-boobies ,but also the continental rainforests host for example more bird species per square metre than any other part of this globe. / ELÄIMET ~ Satoja eläin - ja lintu-lajeja joista en ole ikinä edes kuullut, varsinkaan nähnyt. Galapagos -saaret ovat ihan oma lukunsa valaidensa, jättiläis kilpikonniensa, iguaaniens ja blue-feet-boobieittensa kera, mutta mantereen sademetsät ovat myös erittäin monimuotoisia luonnon alueita - siellä on mm. enemmän lintulajeja per neliökilometri kuin missään muualla maailmassa.

Fresh Fruits
Yay! Fruits that are actually grown in the area! I can imagine that the taste will be a bit different! Ecuador is one of the biggest producers of bananas but also a producer of many others, for example pine apples and cacao beans. / TUOREET HEDELMÄT ~ Jee! Hedelmiä jotka on ihan oikeesti kasvatettu myynti alueella! Voin kuvitella että maku on vähän erilainen! Ecuador on maailman suurin banaanien tuottaja mutta siellä kasvatetaan myös paljon muuta, mm. ananaksia ja kaakaopapuja.

Dancing
I'm not familiar with many the typical Latin dances, but salsa, mambo, argentinan tango are some examples. I've heard that dancing is present almost everywhere, especially in celebrations with the family. Dance is a thing really close to my heart, so I'm really excited of this cultural fact! / TANSSI ~ En tunne moniakaan lattaritansseja, mutta salsa, mambo ja argentiinalainen tango on joitain esimerkkejä. Olen kuullut että tanssia on Ecuadorissa lähes kaikkialla, erityisesti perheen kanssa juhliessa. Tanssi on tosi lähellä mun sydäntä, joten odotan innolla tätä kulttuuriseikkaa!

Spanish
I am after all going for an high school exchange, which means that I'm supposed to study. In spanish. I hope that that means that I will learn fluent Spanish little by little! The language is lovely, so it's going to be wonderful to be surrounded by it. / ESPANJA ~ Opiskelemaanhan sinne ollaan menossa, elikkä pitää myös opiskella. Espanjaksi. <toi vottavasti opin sen kautta vähitellen alkujärkytyksen jälkeen sujuvan kielitaidon! Rakastan sitä kieltä, joten odotan innolla sen kuulemista joka nurkassa.

Packing
I enjoy packing. A bit strange maybe, but I do! Even thought I don't want to hurry saying good bye, I'm really looking forward to start packing, because this is a really different and special packing episode. I'm already now thinking about which shoes to take and what do I need and how can I fit everything in.. Maybe when I actually start and see that my 70 kilos are a bit too much for 25 kilos bag limit my enthuasm will drop, but this far the thought is fun! / PAKKAAMINEN ~ Tykkään pakkaamisesta. Saattaa kuulostaa ovähän oudolta, mutta joo! Vaikkakin en halua yhtään kiirehtiä moikkauksien (hyvästi kuulostaa liian lopulliselta) sanomista, niin odotan innolla pakkaamisen aloittamista, koska tämä tulee olemaan ihan erilainen ja erityinen pakkaus episodi. Mietin jo nyt mitkä kengät tuli ottaa mukaan ja mitä tarvitsen ja miten saan kaiken mahtumaan. Ehkä kun oikeasti aloitan ja huomaan että reilu 70 kiloa tavaraa ei millään mahdu 25 kilon laukkuun niin mun innostus laskee, mutta tähän asti ainakin ajatus on kiva!
I'm also looking forward to see all the colors, snorkling with the fish and things I don't even know the name of, get to know and see the native indian culture, see the inca ruins, walk the stairs of Pailon del Diablo, see a whale, try the swing of Casa del Arbol at the end of the world, wear a school uniform (haha, because that's strange for us!) and get to know my host family and many many other things! There are also soo many people and things that I will miss soo much, but that's a different list! / Odotan innolla myös värikästä maisemaa, kalojen ja mulle vielä nimettömien otusten kanssa snorklaamista ja alkuperäisintiaanien kulttuuriin tutustumista, inka-raunioiden näkemistä, Pailon del deablon portailla kävelyä, valaan näkemistä, Casa del Arbolin maailamn laidan keinun kokeilemista, koulupuvun käyttämistä ja isäntäperheeseen tutustumista ja vaikka mitä muuta! On tietysti vaikka kuuin paljon asioita ja varsinkin ihmisä joita tulee ihan hirveä ikävä, mutta se lista on eri!
